The children in Year One will be undertaking the ‘Phonics Screening Check’, a statutory assessment by the Department of Education, during the week commencing 13th June 2016.
The Phonics Screening Check is designed to confirm whether individual children have learnt ‘Phonic Decoding’ to an appropriate standard for Year One. The check compromises of a list of 40 words that children read one-to-one with a teacher. Please note that this is not a test of reading ability.
