Snow Day Home Learning

Year 1 Home Learning

English

This week we have read a range of traditional tales. Thinking about the characters we have read about so far, can you draw a picture of a chosen character and write a short description describing what they are like?

Maths

In maths we have been learning about repeated addition. Have a look around your home at things that come in pairs e.g. socks.

How many are there? Can you record this using repeated addition?

e.g.. 2+2+2= 6 etc.

Repeat for different amounts.

Year 2 Home Learning

In Year 2, we have been writing an adventure story inspired by Ian Becks ‘Tom and the Island of Dinosaurs’ for World Book Week. At home encourage your children to  draw and describe lighthouses, volcanoes and dinosaurs. Ensure they are using their phonics to spell their words correctly.

In maths, we have been recapping the four main operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide). In last week’s home learning we provided a sheet to support the written methods that we teach. At home you can:

  • Add and subtract 2 digit and 3 digit numbers using the number line method.
  • Multiply using arrays.
  • Divide through sharing.

Additionally, a useful website for children to practise their mental maths is http://www.topmarks.co.uk.

Please continue to read daily with your child and ask questions to support their comprehension of the book.

Year 4 Home Learning

In Year 4, we have been writing a letter to the author of ‘Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters’ for World Book Week. At home you could be drawing and describing the village, characters and the journey through the forest. Please ensure they children are using correct spelling and punctuation.

In maths, we have been working with fractions and decimals (converting, finding equivalents and rounding). At home children can practice these skills using Mathletics.

Additionally, a useful website for children to practise their mental maths is http://www.topmarks.co.uk.

Please continue to read daily with your child and ask questions to support their comprehension of the book.
