Ealing Junior Book Awards 2017
This year, a group of 12 children from Year 5 and Year 6 are participating in the ‘Ealing Junior Book Awards’ 2017. This event really promotes reading for enjoyment and provides the children with an opportunity to read a set of books that have been written by relatively unknown authors.
What books are the book groups reading?
- The Bubble Boy by Stewart Foster
- Black Power by Ally Sherrick
- Time Travelling with a Hamster by Ross Welford
- The Wilderness War by Julia Green
- The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
- Rose Campion and the Stolen Secret by Lyn Gardner
The children in Year 5 and Year 6 meet at least once a month, as a collective group, to discuss the books they have read so far. This meeting only takes place after both groups have read the same books.
Both groups have read ‘The Bubble Boy’ and ‘Black Powder’. Following on from a discussion about the books the children have written reviews, in pairs. Read the reviews below to see what our children think about them and to see if they tempt you into picking up one of these books. The books are available in Ealing libraries, so you can borrow them to read them for yourselves. The children liked The Bubble Boy so much that they have recommend it to one of our after school book clubs to read.
In May, the children participating in this project will have voted for their top 3 choices out of the list of 6 books that will have been read. In June, all of the children, across the borough, who have taken part in the Ealing Junior Book Awards 2017 will go to another primary school take part in a special event. During this event, the winning book, as voted for by all participating Ealing schools will be announced.
